Description
The 24th Other Minds Festival concentrated on the work of two composers; past and present, whose performance requirements pose challenges that limit opportunities for wide exposure. Ivan Wyschnegradsky (1893-1979) was a founding father of microtonal theory and composition, and his work is little known outside France and Montréal. The first and third concerts (March 23rd and June 16, 2019) were dedicated to works by Wyschnegradsky as well as one by Georg Friedrich Haas, performed by the Arditti Quartet, Hocket Duo, and pianists Martine Joste, Vicki Ray, and Steven Vanhauwaert. Brian Baumbusch, a California based composer and instrument builder, premiered his work "The Pressure" at the second concert on June 15th. "The Pressure" is a tale of gothic horror told in music, inspired by German expressionist silent films and featured more than 24 performers including The Lightbulb Ensemble and Friction String Quartet, 3 keyboardists, a vocal quartet, and the composer as narrator.Other Minds (Organization) (has as presenter)
