Alan Hovhaness Centennial Celebration

Event, EV.OMP.2011.03.13

Description
On March 13, 2011, Other Minds celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alan Hovhaness (1911-2000), a prolific but under-appreciated composer and pioneer of "multi-cultural" music. This concert featured a wide selection of piano music by Hovhaness, including two world premieres, as well as a rarely heard composition by the Armenian composer Vardapet Komitas. All pieces are masterfully performed by pianist and Hovhaness scholar, Şahan Arzruni, who also introduces each work. This event took place at the First Congregational Church of Berkeley, CA.
