Description
Hosts Alan Rich and Nancy Shear present highlights from the October 14th concert of the 1983 New Music America Festival, which was held in Washington D.C. The program begins with two works by composer, sound poet, and performer Carles Santos who first plays a piano piece in the minimalist style and then performs one of his trademark vocal tracks. Marilyn Boyd DeReggi then presents “Dark Harbor” a song cycle by Lawrence Moss in which DeReggi’s haunting voice is accompanied by the composer’s desolate and dirge like tape piece. This concert, which blends traditional roots music with more modern compositions, ends with a rousing performance by the band, Beausoleil, who perform a selection of traditional and original Cajun music.
