Description
Charles Amirkhanian interviews composer Charles Dodge. Dodge, who studied music with Darius Milhaud and Gunther Schuller, is perhaps best known as an electronic music composer who specializes in working with synthesized computer speech. Dodge received his MA and Doctorate degrees from Columbia University where he also taught in the 1970s. Later he went on to found the Center for Computer Music in New York, and has taught at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York , and Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. In this program, recorded in 1975, Dodge discusses how he composes, his interest in synthesized speech, his collaborations with poet Mark Strand, and the various types of technology that he was utilized in realizing his tape pieces.
